UK Mountains Walking, Mountaineering and Equipment Reviews
Sparsholt to Streatley

As I was booked into Streatley YHA there was no point getting away early, check in wasn't until 5pm so I'd arranged a breakfast at 8:30am. Rather incredibly the two walkers I'd seen on the bus on Monday had also stayed the night so we chatted about the last couple of days and also other walks we had done. Finally at 9:30am I set off for the days walk. I had my long sleeved top on but soon took it off as it was warm enough. There were some dark clouds around but the rain stayed off all day.

The Ridgeway in this part seems to be long sections of straight track with the occasional road crossing to break the monotony. At one point the route crosses the A34 using a tunnel which had some interesting murals painted depicting the local area. Some parts pass quite close to 'gallops' but none were in use as I passed them by.

About Half Way

Due to a huge meal last night and sizeable breakfast I didn't feel hungry for most of the day, but did have a gel, banana and a peanut bar at various stops. By about 3pm I'd noticed a little hunger pang so decided to stop at the next available spot i.e. somewhere I could sit. I'd come down to a road and a sign saying 'Streatley 3km'. I was very early so in no rush.

Soon I spotted a small bench by the roadside - not ideal, but quiet and convenient. I'd taken a packed lunch from the B&B which comprised crisps, two rolls, a carton of juice and a chocolate biscuit. I decided to save one of the rolls for tomorrow but ate and drank the rest.

The final walk into Streatley was along roads and not very inspiring so I was pleased to finish. It still wasn't even 4pm so popped into the 'Bull' for a slow beer to occupy some of the time. Deciding against a second I headed for the YHA just next door and waited in the lounge for 5pm when I could check in.

Due to some mega deal I'd booked a twin room for myself, dinner, breakfast and a packed lunch all for around £40 which was a bargain. Shower, admin and relax followed until dinner at 7pm.

Dinner was chicken pie and mash with Lemon Meringue Pie which was awesome of course.

Total of 18 miles walked in just under six hours not including major stops.
