Elbrus Day 7 Rest Day at Top Camp
Elbrus from Top Camp

Up and about by 7:30 I had a good wash and washed my clothes from the last couple of days. I still have another set of clean ones down at base Camp but it never hurts to have spares. Breakfast was 10am with the obligatory porridge which I rejected and made do with cheese and salami on bread.

Part of the morning was spent trying (and succeeding) in getting a phone signal so updating everyone on progress, part reading and a major but nice and slow kit faff. Pretty sure I am ready and everything I want to take fits in the rucsac. I'll be wearing Crampons, Double Boots, two pairs of socks, Stellar Trousers, Stellar Thermal, Beghaus mid-layer, Stellar Jacket, Rab sticky gloves and (maybe) Buffalo mits, buff and Rab Beanie.

In the sac I have my Black Diamond Gloves, liners, Russian Hat, Down Jacket, Goggles, Sun Glasses plus food and three litres of water, oh and Waterproofs. Also I will be using Walking Poles and taking an Axe for higher ground. Popular opinion is not to bother with a crash helmet so I'll leave that behind.

Lunch today was mushroom soup and meat in a sauce with pasta or something. Quite nice, but was an effort. Sitting around at altitude just doesn't make me hungry.

By 6pm it was clear that we wouldn't be going. The skies looked very bad and it had been raining. Nothing else for it but to postpone until Sunday night/Monday. The evening was spent chatting and trying to hide the disappointment.

Weather Report: A mixed day weather wise, sunshine but occasional cold spells and the odd spot of rain. Later in the day some showers and a distinct downturn in temperature.
