Elbrus Day 9 Rest Day
Sunset over the Glacier

Woke around 8am desperate for the loo. It sounded windy outside but I had to go. Windy indeed, it was blowing a gale!

The morning was spent trying to make jobs last longer, almost pottering you might say. A bit of kit sorting for tonight, a bit of reading, a bit of just day-dreaming. Just as I felt sorted, Stuart informed us that we had to move into one main hut. Nothing for it but to start moving gear. I took my sleeping bag first to get a spot, then slowly moved the rest of my gear over. Another re-sort and this time fully packed my sac for tonight and prepared my wearing clothes, agonising over whether to wear Thermal Tights or not. On the plus side, they would keep my legs warm if it got really cold, on the minus side, almost impossible to remove if I got too hot. Well, at worst I could strip off, if I am too cold, then I'm knackered.

The wind seemed to be getting worse to the point where it is almost knocking me over. I have to wear both my Stella mid-layer AND Down Jacket outside.

Evening falls over Elbrus

Nothing very exciting happened for the rest of the day except we've been told there is a chance we can go tonight! Everyone is busy sorting gear as best they can and getting an early night. We'll be woken at 11pm if it's on.

11pm came and went - no Summit bid tonight. A restless sleep as usual but I definitely slept as I had some odd dreams

Weather Report: Bright snd sunny but incredibly windy - so bad its hard to walk in a straight line.
